On Monday 27 March, a delegation from the National Council of the Swiss Confederation, headed by Ms. Elisabeth Schneider-Schneiter, President of the Swiss Parliamentarians' Friendship League, in Japan at the invitation of the House of Representatives of Japan, visited the House and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker, and Mr. Seishiro Eto, Chairman of the Japan-Switzerland Parliamentary League of Friendship.
The Speaker began by welcoming the delegation to Japan, and said that this visit would advance the friendship between the countries, and he wished to further promote exchanges between their parliamentarians. In addition, he expressed his appreciation for the support received from Switzerland after the Great East Japan Earthquake and the resulting tsunami in 2011.
In reply, the President thanked the Speaker for inviting her delegation to Japan, and said that she would make efforts for the further strengthening of the close bilateral relationship in various fields, including parliamentary exchanges, through this visit.
They also talked about other subjects, in particular, direct democracy in Switzerland.
