On Friday 21 April, Hon. Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III, President of the Senate, Republic of the Philippines, who was in Japan at the invitation of the House of Councillors of Japan, also visited the House of the Representatives with his delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker, Mr. Tatsuo Kawabata, Vice-Speaker, and Mr. Tsutomu Sato, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration.
The Speaker began by welcoming the delegation to Japan and expressed his respect to the President for his efforts toward the prosperity of the Philippines. He also said that the two countries had deepened their friendly and cooperative relationship in a wide range of fields in recent years, and he would make efforts for the further activation of exchanges between their parliamentarians. In addition, he showed his appreciation for the support Japan received from the Philippines after the Great East Japan Earthquake and the resulting tsunami in 2011.
In reply, the President thanked the Speaker for his welcome, and expressed his gratitude for the various kinds of support his country has received from Japan for the development of the Philippines.
They also talked about other subjects including exchange of information on disaster countermeasures.
