On Tuesday 16 May, M. Abdelhakim Benchamach, President of the House of Councillors, Kingdom of Morocco, who was in Japan at the invitation of the House of Councillors of Japan, also visited the House of Representatives with his delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker, Mr. Tatsuo Kawabata, Vice-Speaker, and Mr. Tsutomu Sato, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration.
The Speaker began by welcoming the delegation to Japan, and said that he expected that the President's visit to Japan would greatly contribute to the further advancement of exchanges between their parliamentarians. He also said that he would make efforts for the further strengthening of the bilateral relationship from his position as Speaker of the House of Representatives. In addition, he hoped that Japanese private investment in Morocco with its political stability would further increase and contribute to Morocco's sustainable development. He also expressed his appreciation for the support Japan received from Morocco after the Great East Japan Earthquake and the resulting tsunami in 2011.
In reply, the President thanked the Speaker for his welcome and said that he was proud that in more than 60 years the two countries had built a good relationship, against the background of the favorable relationship between the Japanese Imperial Family and the Moroccan Royal Family. He also expressed his gratitude for the support his country has received from Japan in the economic and other fields.
They also talked about other subjects including imports of fishery products from Morocco, the film "Casablanca", and the future outlook of their bilateral relationship.
