On Thursday 18 May, Dr. Aly Abdel-Aal, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Arab Republic of Egypt, who was in Japan at the invitation of the House of Representatives of Japan, visited the House with his delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker, Mr. Tatsuo Kawabata, Vice-Speaker, Mr. Tsutomu Sato, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration, Mr. Tsuyoshi Takagi, Mr. Kenta Izumi and Mr. Kiyohiko Toyama, Directors of the Committee, and Mr. Tetsuya Shiokawa and Mr. Takashi Endo, Members of the Committee.
Speaker Oshima began by welcoming the delegation to Japan, and said that he valued the address delivered by H.E. Mr. Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, Egyptian President, in February 2016. He also said that the Egyptian Speaker's visit to Japan would contribute to the further activation of exchanges between their parliamentarians. In addition, he expressed his appreciation for the support Japan received from Egypt after the Great East Japan Earthquake and the resulting tsunami in 2011.
In reply, Speaker Aly Abdel-Aal thanked Speaker Oshima for inviting him and his delegation to Japan, and for the various kinds of economic cooperation from Japan. He also expressed his expectation of further support from Japan for his country's large- scale national projects including the Suez Canal Special Economic Zone.
They also talked about other subjects including the role of the Egyptian House of Representatives, which was first convened last year, and the importance of counterterrorism measures.
