On Friday 19 May, Mr. Emilio Monzó, President of the Chamber of Deputies, Argentine Republic, visited the House with his delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker.
The Speaker began by welcoming the delegation to Japan and said that he expected further activation of exchanges between their parliamentarians, referring to the fact that although the distance between their countries was very far, they historically had a close relationship. He also mentioned that Argentina had made a bid to host an IPU conference to be held in two years, and said that Japan wished to send its delegation if the conference would be held in Argentina.
In reply, the President thanked the Speaker for his welcome and said that their countries would mark the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties next year, mentioning that they were old friendly nations which had deep ties in various fields, including the Argentine tango and soccer.
They also talked about other subjects including their bilateral trading relations and Argentina's policy on its fishery industry.
