On Thursday 8 June, Dr. Chung Sye Kyun, Speaker of the National Assembly, Republic of Korea, who was in Japan at the invitation of the House of Representatives of Japan, visited the House with his delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker, Mr. Tatsuo Kawabata, Vice-Speaker, Mr. Tsutomu Sato, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration, Mr. Tsuyoshi Takagi, Mr. Kenta Izumi and Mr. Kiyohiko Toyama, Directors of the Committee, and Mr. Tetsuya Shiokawa, Member of the Committee.
Speaker Oshima began by welcoming the delegation to Japan. He said that Japan and the ROK were some of the most important neighbors which shared strategic interests, and the bilateral relationship was very important for regional stability including dealing with North Korean issues. In addition, he said that he wished to cooperate in the further activation of exchanges between their parliamentarians including the Japan-Korea Parliamentary Dialogue for the Future.
In reply, Speaker Chung thanked the Speaker for inviting him and his delegation to Japan, and said that their countries need to collaborate more closely to deal with North Korean issues. Expressing his respect to Speaker Oshima for establishing dialogue between their parliaments, he added that it was important to form a channel for dialogue even when the bilateral relationship was in a difficult situation.
They also talked about other subjects including the cooperation between their countries in the Olympic Games to be held in their countries.
