On Monday 12 June, a delegation from the National Assembly of the Republic of Panama, headed by Mr. Jose Luis Varela Rodriguez, President of the Panama-Japan Parliamentary Friendship League, in Japan at the invitation of the House of Representatives of Japan, visited the House and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker, and Mr. Seishiro Eto, Chairman of the Japan-Panama Parliamentary Friendship League.
The Speaker began by welcoming the delegation to Japan, and said that he was sure that the delegation's visit would help promote a closer bilateral relationship. He also expressed his expectation that the Japanese monorail construction in Panama, which had been decided when Mr. Varela's younger brother, H.E. Mr. Juan Carlos Varela Rodriguez, President of Panama, had visited Japan last year, would be a symbol of the bilateral cooperation. In addition, he thanked Panama for the support Japan received after the Great East Japan Earthquake and the resulting tsunami in 2011.
In reply, the President expressed his gratitude to the Speaker for the invitation to his delegation and Japan's cooperation for the monorail construction. He also said that he wished to continue to make efforts for maintaining the good relationship between their countries.
They also talked about other subjects including the exchange between their parliamentarians through sports.
