On Wednesday 28 June, Mr. Bohuslav Sobotka, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, who was in Japan at the invitation of the Japanese Government, visited the House with his delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker.
The Speaker began by welcoming the delegation to Japan, and said that he was glad to have served as the Japanese-side Chairman of the Honorary Committee of the Year of Czech Culture in Japan 2017 in the year marking the 60th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic ties between Japan and the Czech Republic, and about the realization of the Alfons Mucha exhibition in Tokyo as a major event of the Year of Czech Culture in Japan. He also said that he was happy to see that exchanges between their parliamentarians and governments were becoming vibrant, and wished to make efforts toward that end from his position as Speaker of the House of Representatives. In addition, he expressed appreciation for the support Japan received from the Czech Republic after the Great East Japan Earthquake and the resulting tsunami in 2011.
In reply, the Prime Minister thanked the Speaker for his welcome and said that the bilateral relationship would continue to flourish in various fields. He added that he wished to expand cooperation between their countries, especially in the fields of robotics and mobility in the auto industry by deepening economic exchanges.
They also talked about other subjects including the gymnast, Ms. Vera Caslavska, who performed so brilliantly in the Tokyo Olympic Games in 1964.
