On Wednesday 23 August, Hon. Dr. Jiko Fatafehi Luveni, Speaker of the Parliament, Republic of Fiji, visited the House with her delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker.
Mr. Oshima began by welcoming Dr. Luveni whom he was meeting for the first time in two years. He said that Fiji was a major country of the Pacific island nations, and that Japan placed importance on the friendly relationship with Fiji in regional cooperation. He also expressed his respect for her personal efforts in establishing democracy in Fiji.
In reply, the Fijian Speaker thanked him for his welcome, and described ongoing activities to deepen the Fijian people's understanding of democracy. In addition, she expressed gratitude for the support the Fijian Parliament had received from Japan, and also for Japan's effort to strengthen the bilateral relationship through international conferences.
They also talked about other subjects including the further activation of exchanges between their parliamentarians.
