On Tuesday 28 November, Rt. Hon. U Win Myint, Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw (the Lower House), Republic of the Union of Myanmar, who was in Japan at the invitation of the House of Representatives of Japan, visited the House with his delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker, Mr. Hirotaka Akamatsu, Vice-Speaker, Mr. Keiji Furuya, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration, Mr. Masatoshi Ishida, Mr. Yoshio Tezuka, Mr. Yoshio Maki and Mr. Wataru Ito, Directors of the Committee, and Mr. Akio Fukuda and Mr. Tetsuya Shiokawa, Members of the Committee.
Speaker Oshima began by welcoming the delegation to Japan. He said that he valued the continuation and advancement of the bilateral relationship, and that both public and private sectors of Japan would support Myanmar's efforts for the establishment of democracy, national reconciliation and economic development. He also expressed concerns about the humanitarian and human rights situation in Rakhine state.
In reply, Speaker Win Myint thanked Mr. Oshima for the invitation to his delegation, and expressed gratitude for the support his country received from Japan in various fields. Regarding the humanitarian and human rights situation in Myanmar, he asked for the understanding of Myanmar's stance that it is and will be continuing to make efforts to solve issues, duly treating ethnic minorities.
They also talked about other subjects including the promotion of dignitaries' visits to each other's countries and exchange between their parliamentarians.
