On Wednesday 6 December, Dr. Carlos Manuel Gutierrez Calzado, Member of the National Assembly of the People's Power of the Republic of Cuba, and also President of the Cuba-Japan Parliamentary Friendship League, in Japan at the invitation of the House of Representatives of Japan, visited the House and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker; Mr. Hirotaka Akamatsu, Vice-Speaker; and Mr. Keiji Furuya, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration and also Chairman of the Japan-Cuba Parliamentary League of Friendship.
The Speaker began by welcoming Dr. Gutierrez to Japan. He said that he valued the increased frequency of dignitaries' visits to each other's countries in recent years, and hoped that bilateral cooperation would expand to more fields. In addition, he explained that a resolution to protest North Korea's ballistic missile launch had been adopted by the House.
In reply, Dr. Gutierrez thanked Mr. Oshima for inviting him, and said that he would make efforts for the further advancement of their bilateral relationship.
They also talked about other subjects, including North Korean issues such as ballistic missile launches, nuclear development and abductions, and the promotion of sports in Cuba.
