On Wednesday 16 May, Mr. Radek Vondráček, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic, visited the House of Representatives with his delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker.
Speaker Oshima began by welcoming the delegation to Japan, stating that the two countries were important partners with shared fundamental values. Referring to the 60th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries last year, he appreciated the Alfons Mucha exhibition in Japan where some works were displayed outside the Czech Republic for the first time. Commenting on active exchange in music and sports, he observed that Japanese people felt close to the Czech Republic because of the late Ms. Vera Caslavska, a gold-medal gymnast in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. He also hoped Czech athletes would perform well in the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020, when the centennial of friendly exchange between the two countries will be celebrated.
In reply, thanking Mr. Oshima for his welcome, Mr. Vondráček expressed hopes to deepen cooperation with Japan on defense equipment, and for a closer strategic partnership, as well as noting intentions to render cooperation to Japan in matters related to North Korea.
