On Friday 1 June, H.E. Mr. Tran Dai Quang, President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, who was on a State Visit to Japan, visited the House with his delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker; Mr. Hirotaka Akamatsu, Vice-Speaker; and Mr. Keiji Furuya, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration.
Speaker Oshima began by welcoming the delegation to Japan, pleased that President Quang visited the House as a State Guest in this year celebrating the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries. Thanking the President for the hospitality during the Speaker’s own visit to Viet Nam in May 2017, Mr. Oshima also expressed his desire to support further exchange between the two parliaments and promote bilateral cooperation to further develop the bilateral relationship based on the Japan-Viet Nam Extensive Strategic Partnership.
In reply, President Quang expressed appreciation to Speaker Oshima for his welcome. Stressing that Japan was one of Viet Nam's most important long-term strategic partners, he stated that he was pleased that the two countries had strong political trust built by frequent visits by dignitaries. He also praised the Japanese government's significant contribution to matters related to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP11).
They also talked about other subjects including strengthening ties between the two parliaments and governments in areas including economy, exchange between citizens, and security.
