On Monday, 19 November, Ms. Tsveta Karayancheva, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, who was in Japan at the invitation of the House of Councillors, visited the House of Representatives with her delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker; Mr. Hirotaka Akamatsu, Vice-Speaker; and Ms. Sanae Takaichi, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration.
Speaker Oshima, beginning by welcoming the delegation to Japan, stated that he was pleased at the timing of National Assembly President Karayancheva's visit to Japan, as three anniversaries between Japan and Bulgaria will overlap next year, namely the 110th anniversary of the beginning of bilateral contacts, the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and the 60th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations. The Speaker also welcomed the establishment of the Japan Business Forum in Bulgaria's capital, Sofia, in June this year, which is a platform for sharing information between the Bulgarian Government and Japanese companies, and requested support for Japanese companies to be able to smoothly carry out business in Bulgaria.
In reply, Ms. Karayancheva, showed gratitude to Speaker Oshima for his welcome and indicated appreciation for the various kinds of support Bulgaria had received from Japan. In addition, she expressed hope that more Japanese businesses would expand to Bulgaria in the future, as the conditions for developing businesses and of industrial areas have been further improved in her country.
Other topics included promotion of bilateral parliamentary exchanges, the Japan-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), the Japan-EU Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA), and grassroots exchanges in Host Towns for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.
