Speaker of the Croatian Parliament visits Speaker Oshima


On Tuesday, 4 June, Mr. Gordan Jandrokovic, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia, who was in Japan at the invitation of the House of Representatives, visited the House and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker; Mr. Hirotaka Akamatsu, Vice-Speaker; Ms. Sanae Takaichi, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration; Mr. Isshu Sugawara, Mr. Yoshio Tezuka, Mr. Yoshio Maki and Mr. Hidemichi Sato, Directors of the Committee; and Mr. Tetsuya Shiokawa and Mr. Hajime Hirota, Members of the Committee.

Speaker Oshima, beginning by welcoming Speaker Jandrokovic to Japan, conveyed his hope that this visit would contribute to furthering parliamentary exchange between the two countries, which celebrated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2018. He also stated that he would like to continue working with Croatia, with which Japan shares values including free trade and the rule of law. He expressed his trust in the role Croatia will play when assuming the presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2020.

In reply, Mr. Jandrokovic, expressing gratitude to Mr. Oshima for his invitation to Japan, communicated to Mr. Oshima his wish to promote parliamentary exchange toward the strengthening of the Japan-Croatia relationship. He also stated his intention to encourage more investment from Japan and the launch of non-stop flights between the countries to enhance economic ties. Mr. Jandrokovic expressed his hope that bilateral exchange would increase at the local level under the Host Town program for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. He stated that his country highly valued its relationship with Japan, a friend of Croatia sharing values of peace, freedom and democracy.

Other subjects in their meeting included Mr. Jandrokovic's visit to Hiroshima and Kyoto and the tourism industry in both countries.
