President of the Senate of the Czech Parliament visits Speaker Oshima


On Tuesday, 25 June, Mr. Jaroslav Kubera, President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, visited the House and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker.

Speaker Oshima began by expressing his appreciation to Mr. Kubera for visiting Japan to attend the Women Political Leaders Summit 2019, which was held in the House from 25 to 27 June. He stated that Japan and the Czech Republic were partners sharing fundamental values including freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law, and that the two countries had long enjoyed friendly relations. He remarked on his intention to work to further parliamentary exchange in order to deepen mutual understanding.

In reply, Mr. Kubera, displaying his gratitude to Mr. Oshima for his welcome, stated the importance of the parliamentary exchange between the two countries and his hope that the bilateral relationship would further deepen in 2020, which will mark the centenary of exchange between Japan and the Czech Republic. He also mentioned the strengthening of bilateral relations and Japan-EU ties based on the implementation of the Japan-EU Economic Partnership Agreement.

Other subjects in the meeting included the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, tourism in both countries and Japanese companies expanding to the Czech Republic.
