Turkish President visits Speaker Oshima


On Monday, 1 July, H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey, who was in Japan to attend the G20 Osaka Summit and also at the invitation of the Government, visited the House with his delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker, and Mr. Hirotaka Akamatsu, Vice-Speaker.

Speaker Oshima, beginning by welcoming the delegation to Japan, expressed his hope that bilateral ties would be further strengthened under President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Abe, who are on friendly terms with each other. Referring to Turkey's recent remarkable economic growth, he stated that further development of the country was crucial to peace and stability in that area and the world due to the geopolitical importance of its location.

In reply, President Erdoğan expressed his gratitude for Mr. Oshima's words of welcome and also his wish that the Reiwa would be a great era for the people of Japan. Referring to the two countries' relationship which has recently deepened as strategic partners, he stated his hope that bilateral cooperation would be further promoted in a wide range of areas, including energy, mining, automobiles and information technology, and that the Japan-Turkey Economic Partnership Agreement be rapidly concluded. He also commented that it was important to promote exchange between various organizations such as parliamentarians' friendship leagues and political parties.

Other subjects in the meeting included Turkish Cultural Year in Japan and matters related to economic relations between the two countries.
