Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives visits Speaker Oshima


On Tuesday, 19 November, Mr. Atef Al Tarawneh, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, who was in Japan at the invitation of the Japanese House of Representatives, visited the House with his delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker; Mr. Hirotaka Akamatsu, Vice-Speaker; Mr. Tsuyoshi Takagi, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration; Mr. Nobuo Kishi and Mr. Hidemichi Sato, Directors of the Committee; and Mr. Shunsuke Ito and Mr. Tetsuya Shiokawa, Members of the Committee.

Speaker Oshima, beginning by welcoming the delegation to Japan, conveyed that he appreciated the role Jordan has been playing in providing regional stability in the Middle East. He also remarked that Japan and Jordan have maintained cordial relations between the Japanese Imperial Family and the Jordanian Royal Family and between the two governments, and stated his intention to support more frequent parliamentary exchange after this visit.

In reply, Speaker Al Tarawneh expressed his gratitude for the invitation to Japan and his congratulations on the enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor, and indicated his hope to promote friendship between Japan and Jordan. He also commented on the importance of both countries cooperating in countering terrorism and aiding refugees in the Middle East.

In the meeting, they touched on other subjects, including peace in the Middle East and Japan's support of Jordan, for which Mr. Al Tarawneh expressed deep appreciation.
