Uzbek President visits Speaker Oshima


On Thursday, 19 December, H.E. Dr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, who was in Japan at the invitation of the Government, visited the House of Representatives with his delegation and met with Mr. OSHIMA Tadamori, Speaker, and Mr. AKAMATSU Hirotaka, Vice-Speaker.

Speaker Oshima, beginning by welcoming the delegation to Japan, stated that Japan valued its ties with Uzbekistan, the country with the largest population in Central Asia as well as ample natural resources and World Heritage Sites, and that he hoped this visit to Japan would contribute to further developing their bilateral relationship.

In reply, President Mirziyoyev expressed his appreciation for Japan's support for his country. He also gave congratulations on the 130th anniversary of the establishment of the National Diet of Japan in 2020, stating that he would like to learn from the Japanese Diet's experiences and use that knowledge to develop Uzbekistan's democracy. He added that he intended to not only promote parliamentary exchange including interactions between the parliamentarians' friendship leagues of both countries, but also to further strengthen economic relations and cooperation in education.

Other subjects in their meeting included tourism promotion and Japan's support for Uzbekistan's parliamentary elections.
