Speaker Oshima’s meeting with Canadian Speaker

On Friday, 10 July, Mr. OSHIMA Tadamori, Speaker of the House of Representatives, had a video teleconference with the Honourable Anthony Rota, M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada.

Speaker Rota began by expressing his condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims of and all those affected by the ongoing torrential rains, to which Speaker Oshima responded with appreciation.

The two Speakers then introduced the information and exchanged views on protective measures in place against COVID-19 in their own parliaments and various measures taken in relation to parliamentary business. Both Mr. Oshima and Mr. Rota agreed that under the current international situation, there is an increasing need to strengthen solidarity among national parliaments and that they will continue cooperating with each other by sharing lessons and insights from their parliaments.
