Speaker of the Bahraini Council of Representatives visits Speaker Oshima

On Monday, 24 June, Mme. Fawzia Abdullah Zainal, Speaker of the Council of Representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain, visited the House with her delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker.

Speaker Oshima began by welcoming the delegation, which was in Japan to attend the Women Political Leaders Summit 2019. He appreciated that women's empowerment in Bahrain has progressed in various areas and requested that Speaker Fawzia describe Bahrain's efforts in the conference.

Regarding bilateral relations, he also spoke favorably of exchange in diverse areas promoted under the Comprehensive Partnership towards Stability and Prosperity, which the leaders of both countries agreed on in August 2013. Mr. Oshima stated his hope that the establishment of the Bahrain-Japan Friendship Committee in the Bahraini Council of Representatives this year would contribute to furthering parliamentary exchange between the countries.

In reply, Speaker Fawzia, thanking Mr. Oshima for his welcome, expressed her intention to contribute to further development of a healthy bilateral relationship through active parliamentary exchange. Also, showing gratitude for the invitation to the conference, she stated that she would like to speak in the conference about how women's empowerment is increasing in Bahrain and also hoped to exchange knowledge and discuss obstacles to women actively participating in public life.

Other subjects in this meeting included the importance of peace and stability in the Middle East, and Bahrain's economic policy.
