Turkmen President visits Speaker Oshima
On Wednesday, 23 October, H.E. Dr. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of Turkmenistan, visited the House of Representatives with his delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker, and Mr. Toshiaki Endo, Chairman of the Japan-Turkmenistan League of Friendship.
Speaker Oshima began by expressing appreciation to Dr. Berdimuhamedov for visiting Japan to attend the Ceremony of the Enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor. He stated that he was pleased to see a stronger relationship in agriculture and education, as demonstrated by exchanges between Hirosaki University and Turkmen Agricultural University Named after S.A. Nyyazov, and between the University of Tsukuba and the Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan. He also commented that he was glad about Japan's contributions to Turkmenistan through state-of-the-art technology, namely a plant manufacturing gasoline from natural gas, the completion of which was celebrated in June this year.
In response, President Berdimuhamedov, expressing his gratitude for Mr. Oshima's welcome, offered congratulations on the enthronement of the emperor. Also mentioning that Turkmenistan had received multiple investment from Japan since its independence, he stated that he hoped to introduce Japan's merits, including in the field of science, to his country.
Other subjects in their meeting included Japanese language education in Turkmenistan, the parliamentary system in Turkmenistan, and the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.
