On Tuesday, 14 February, Mr. Seán Ó Fearghaíl, Ceann Comhairle of the Dáil Éireann of Ireland, in Japan at the invitation of the House of Representatives, visited the House with his delegation and met with Mr. HOSODA Hiroyuki, Speaker of the House; Mr. KAIEDA Banri, Vice-Speaker; Mr. YAMAGUCHI Shunichi, Chair of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration; Mr. MORIYAMA Masahito, Mr. RYU Hirofumi, and Mr. OKAMOTO Mitsunari, Directors of the Committee; and Mr. NAKATSUKA Hiroshi, Mr. ASANO Satoshi and Mr. SHIOKAWA Tetsuya, Members of the Committee.
Speaker Hosoda began by welcoming the delegation to Japan. He then stated that he hopes Japan and Ireland will further enhance their relationship following Mr. Ó Fearghaíl's first visit to Japan and last year's 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Mr. Ó Fearghaíl responded by offering his appreciation for the invitation. He also expressed hope that further exchange between both parliaments, including the parliamentary leagues of friendship, will lead to more activity in a wide range of fields, such as exchange on a personal level and promotion of investment.
They also exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine and national security.
