On Wednesday, 5 April, Hon. Juan Miguel F. Zubiri, President of the Senate of the Republic of the Philippines, visited the House of Representatives with his delegation and met with Mr. HOSODA Hiroyuki, Speaker of the House.
Speaker Hosoda began by welcoming the delegation to Japan. He then expressed hope that the visit by H.E. Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., President of the Republic of the Philippines, to Japan in February this year would lead to further advancement of bilateral exchange, including between the parliaments, after it stalled due to COVID-19. Mr. Hosoda also stated that he would continue to work toward promoting exchange between individuals in the two countries.
Mr. Zubiri responded by offering his appreciation for the reception and congratulating Mr. Hosoda on his birthday. He called Japan one of the Philippine’s closest friends, and mentioned how they share such values as democracy, freedom of navigation, and the rule of law. He also expressed his gratitude for economic assistance from Japan in the areas of public transportation, industries and defense.
They also exchanged views on the regional situation and energy.
