On Friday, 27 October, Ms. Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, visited the House of Representatives and met with Mr. NUKAGA Fukushiro, Speaker of the House.
Speaker Nukaga began by welcoming her to Japan. He then stated that the leaders of Japan and Lithuania upgraded their countries' relations to strategic partnership on last year's 100th anniversary of their friendship. Mr. Nukaga also expressed hope that the occasion would help the nations strengthen their friendly ties by enhancing bilateral exchange, including between the parliaments.
Ms. Čmilytė-Nielsen responded by congratulating Mr. Nukaga on taking office as Speaker. She also stated that her country shares fundamental values, such as freedom and democracy, with Japan, which has an extremely important presence in the Indo-Pacific region. She added that she hopes for further bilateral exchange in the fields of defense and the economy.
They also exchanged views on support for Ukraine and potential areas for cooperation.
