On Monday, 24 June, Mme. Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia, visited the House with her delegation and met with Mr. Tadamori Oshima, Speaker.
Speaker Oshima began by welcoming the delegation, which was in Japan to attend the Women Political Leaders Summit 2019. He requested that Speaker Mūrniece talk about Latvia's current situation for women's empowerment during the conference, which was held in the House from 25 to 27 June. He also stated his intention to provide support for parliamentary exchange to be promoted by this visit.
In reply, Speaker Mūrniece expressed gratitude to Mr. Oshima for his welcome and the invitation to the conference. Also, referring to increasing women's empowerment in Latvia, she explained that it was due to the historical background and also an expression of women's own will.
Other subjects in the meeting included the strengthening of bilateral economic ties based on the implementation of the Japan-EU Economic Partnership Agreement, and Latvian art and culture.
