On Friday, 29 August, Mr. NUKAGA Fukushiro, Speaker of the House of Representatives, met with H.E. Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India, in Japan at the invitation of the Government, with YAMASHITA Takashi, TSUSHIMA Jun, INO Toshiro and KAMEI Akiko, Members of the House, also attending.
Speaker Nukaga began by welcoming the Prime Minister to Japan. He then stated that Japan and India, which share fundamental values as democratic nations in Asia, would be able to build a win-win relationship in a complementary manner in a wide range of fields. He welcomed the fact that his proposal to Prime Minister Modi regarding bilateral exchange involving more than 50,000 skilled individuals over five years, made at their meeting in August 2024 during his visit to India, led to the two governments' plan to have bilateral exchange of 500,000 individuals over five years. He reiterated the importance of continuing bilateral cooperation in a range of areas.
Prime Minister Modi responded by sharing Speaker Nukaga's view on the importance of such human resource exchange. He also expressed hope that the two nations would continue to work together closely to strengthen their cooperation.
They also discussed cooperation between the two countries' businesses and educational institutions, as well as cultural exchange and promoting investment from Japan to India.
