On Tuesday, 30 September, a delegation from the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic headed by the Hon. Mrs. Thoummaly Vongphachanh, President of the Laos-Japan Parliamentarian Friendship Association, in Japan at the invitation of the House of Representatives, visited the House with her delegation and met with Mr. NUKAGA Fukushiro, Speaker of the House, and Ms. TSUCHIYA Shinako, President of the Japan-Laos Parliamentary Friendship League.
Speaker Nukaga began by welcoming the delegation to Japan. He then stressed the importance of Japan and Laos sharing the same view and cooperating for security and economic development of the Indo-Pacific region, including the other ASEAN member nations as well.
Mrs. Thoummaly responded by offering her appreciation for the invitation. She also welcomed the more frequent mutual visits by dignitaries between Japan and Laos this year, which marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. She stated that she is grateful for Japan's support in a wide range of areas, including the economy, culture and skill development.
They also exchanged views on parliamentary exchange between Japan and Laos, particularly between their parliamentary leagues of friendship, and assistance from JICA on the 60th anniversary of the first dispatch of Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers to Laos.
