On Tuesday, 3 March, the Honourable Raymonde Gagné, C.M., O.M., Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of Canada, in Japan at the invitation of the House of Councillors, visited the House of Representatives with her delegation and met with Mr. MORI Eisuke, Speaker of the House; Mr. ISHII Keiichi, Vice-Speaker; and Mr. YAMAGUCHI Shunichi, Chair of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration.
Speaker Mori began by welcoming the delegation to Japan. He then mentioned that Japan and Canada are important strategic partners which share fundamental values and principles with a long history of friendship. He also stated that the two countries have been steadily furthering their cooperation in a wide range of areas, including the economy, security and energy.
Speaker Gagné responded by offering her appreciation for the reception. She expressed hope that the delegation's visit to Japan would help the two countries further exchange between their parliaments, including the parliamentary leagues of friendship. She also touched on the importance of cultural exchange and expressed hope for deepening their bilateral ties.
They also discussed views on exchange between individuals in the two countries and the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
