On Wednesday, 4 March, Mr. Woo Won Shik, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, visited the House of Representatives with his delegation and met with Dr. MORI Eisuke, Speaker of the House, and Mr. ISHII Keiichi, Vice-Speaker.
Speaker Mori began by welcoming the delegation to Japan and expressing gratitude to Speaker Woo for congratulating him on taking office as Speaker. Dr. Mori then stated that Japan and South Korea are important neighboring countries that should work together as partners to address a wide range of challenges facing the international community and that the two countries' relationship, as well as cooperation between Japan, South Korea and the United States, are becoming even more important in the current strategic environment. He also welcomed close communication between their countries' leaders and parliamentarians.
Mr. Woo responded by offering his appreciation for the reception. He stated that Japan and South Korea, which marked the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations last year, are entering a new era of their relationship and stressed the growing need for strategic cooperation between the countries under the current international situation. He also expressed that the two countries should facilitate exchange not only between their governments but also between their parliaments to develop the bilateral relationship in a stable and future-oriented manner.
They also discussed views on exchange between individuals in the two countries and further cooperation in tackling social issues they are facing.
