Prime Minister of Finland visits Speaker Hosoda


On Wednesday, 11 May, H.E. Mme. Sanna Marin, Prime Minister of the Republic of Finland, visited the House of Representatives and met with Mr. HOSODA Hiroyuki, Speaker of the House.

Speaker Hosoda began by welcoming Prime Minister Marin to Japan. He then mentioned the response following Russia's aggression against Ukraine, expressing his hope that countries including Japan and Finland will cooperate to restore peace as soon as possible. Mr. Hosoda also stated that he expects exchange on a personal level between the two countries, which has slowed due to COVID-19, will recover and become more active.

Prime Minister Marin followed by conveying her hopes for further development of cooperative relations between the two countries, including in the fields of digitalization and green transition. She also stated that she appreciates the sanctions Japan has imposed against Russia.

They also exchanged views on aging societies, a common issue in both countries, as well as social security, women's empowerment and exchange between parliamentarians.
