On Wednesday, 2 November, H.E. Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, visited the House of Representatives and met with Mr. HOSODA Hiroyuki, Speaker of the House, accompanied by members of the Japanese-German Parliamentary Friendship Group including Mr. ENDO Toshiaki, the group’s Chair.
Speaker Hosoda began by welcoming President Steinmeier to Japan. He then expressed his hope for further exchange between the two countries' parliaments, including between the parliamentary friendship groups.
President Steinmeier responded by noting that Japan is a trusted partner of Germany. He also stated that it is important for the two countries to cooperate to maintain the rule-based international order, to which Mr. Hosoda agreed.
They also exchanged views on the response to the situation in Ukraine; energy costs and commodity prices, issues which both countries have in common; and exchange between Japan and Germany by means of sports.
