President of Portuguese Assembly visits Speaker Hosoda


On Tuesday, 15 November, Dr. Augusto Santos Silva, President of the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic, who was in Japan at the invitation of the House of Representatives, visited the House with his delegation and met with Mr. HOSODA Hiroyuki, Speaker of the House; Mr. KAIEDA Banri, Vice-Speaker; Mr. YAMAGUCHI Shunichi, Chair of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration; Mr. MORIYAMA Masahito, Mr. RYU Hirofumi, Mr. ENDO Takashi, and Mr. OKAMOTO Mitsunari, Directors of the Committee; and Mr. ASANO Satoshi and Mr. SHIOKAWA Tetsuya, Members of the Committee.

Speaker Hosoda began by welcoming the delegation to Japan. He then stated that Japan and Portugal have a long history of bilateral exchange and that the year 2020 marked the 160th anniversary of the signing of the Peace, Friendship and Trade Treaty between the two countries. Mr. Hosoda also noted that he was glad that next year will mark the 480th anniversary of bilateral exchange.

Dr. Santos Silva responded by offering his appreciation for the invitation. He also stated that the bilateral ties hold a great significance for his country, expressing his hope for further cooperation between the two nations.

They also exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine as well as climate issues and energy.
