On Monday, 6 February, Mr. Masud Gharahkhani, President of the Storting of the Kingdom of Norway, who was in Japan at the invitation of the House of Councillors, visited the House of Representatives with his delegation and met with Mr. HOSODA Hiroyuki, Speaker of the House; Mr. KAIEDA Banri, Vice-Speaker; and Mr. YAMAGUCHI Shunichi, Chair of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration.
Speaker Hosoda began by welcoming the delegation to Japan. He expressed hope for further mutual cooperation in various fields, including the energy industry, digital transformation and marine resources, which Japan and Norway both have in abundance.
Mr. Gharahkhani responded by offering his appreciation for the reception. He also expressed his desire to build a cooperative relationship between the two countries, which share such values as democracy, respect for human rights, and the rule of law, in a wide range of areas, including renewable energy.
They also exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine and regional security in Europe and Asia.
