On Tuesday, 6 June, Ms. Esperança Laurinda Francisco Nhiuane Bias, Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, in Japan at the invitation of the House of Representatives, visited the House with her delegation and met with Mr. HOSODA Hiroyuki, Speaker of the House; Mr. KAIEDA Banri, Vice-Speaker; Mr. YAMAGUCHI Shunichi, Chair of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration; Mr. MORIYAMA Masahito, Mr. RYU Hirofumi and Mr. OKAMOTO Mitsunari, Directors of the Committee; and Mr. NAKATSUKA Hiroshi and Mr. SHIOKAWA Tetsuya, Members of the Committee.

Speaker Hosoda began by welcoming the delegation to Japan. He then offered sympathies to the people of Mozambique who were affected by the cyclone in March and prayed for the swift recovery of the devastated areas. Mr. Hosoda also expressed hope that the two countries would further deepen their relationship following Speaker Bias' visit to Japan and Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio's visit to Mozambique last month.

Speaker Bias responded by offering her appreciation for the invitation. She also indicated her desire that her visit to Japan would help strengthen the two countries' close bilateral ties, which have been cultivated through exchange between individuals. She also conveyed her gratitude for Japan's support in a wide range of areas and expressed hope for promotion of further investment by Japanese companies.

They also exchanged views on various issues such as energy resource development, including liquefied natural gas projects, and cooperation in the international arena.
