Singaporean Speaker visits Speaker Nukaga


On Tuesday, 21 November, Mr. Seah Kian Peng, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Singapore, in Japan at the invitation of the House of Councillors, visited the House of Representatives with his delegation and met with Mr. NUKAGA Fukushiro, Speaker of the House; Mr. KAIEDA Banri, Vice-Speaker; and Mr. YAMAGUCHI Shunichi, Chair of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration.

Speaker Nukaga began by welcoming the delegation to Japan. He then expressed his gratitude that frequent visits and exchange between the two countries' parliamentarians, government officials and people have contributed to friendly and stable bilateral relations.

Mr. Seah responded by congratulating Mr. Nukaga on taking office as Speaker. He also stated that the two countries have common interests and expressed his intention to play his part as Speaker to facilitate bilateral parliamentary exchange.

They also exchanged views on the importance of relations between Japan and ASEAN, with this year marking the 50th anniversary of their friendship and cooperation, and on how to address an aging society and labor shortage.
