Swedish Speaker visits Speaker Nukaga


On Tuesday, 6 February, Dr. Andreas Norlén, Speaker of the Riksdag of the Kingdom of Sweden, in Japan at the invitation of the House of Representatives, visited the House with his delegation and met with Mr. NUKAGA Fukushiro, Speaker of the House; Mr. KAIEDA Banri, Vice-Speaker; Mr. YAMAGUCHI Shunichi, Chair of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration; Mr. WASHIO Eiichiro, Mr. GOTO Yuichi and Mr. KOSHIMIZU Keiichi, Directors of the Committee; and Mr. NAKATSUKA Hiroshi, Mr. SHIOKAWA Tetsuya and Mr. ASANO Satoshi, Members of the Committee.

Speaker Nukaga began by welcoming the delegation to Japan. He then expressed hope that Dr. Norlén's visit to Japan would help enhance bilateral parliamentary exchange.

Dr. Norlén responded by offering his appreciation for the invitation, followed by expressing his sympathies and condolences to the victims of the Noto Peninsula earthquake. He also stated that the two countries share such values as freedom, democracy and the rule of law, and expressed hope for further bilateral cooperation in the areas of politics, defense, the economy, science, and academia.

They also exchanged views on security in Europe and the Indo-Pacific region, Sweden's application to join NATO, and cooperation between businesses in the two nations.
