On Tuesday, 18 June, Hon. Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of the Philippines, visited the House of Representatives with his delegation and met with Mr. NUKAGA Fukushiro, Speaker of the House, and Mr. KAIEDA Banri, Vice-Speaker.
Speaker Nukaga began by welcoming the delegation to Japan. He then stated that Japan and the Philippines have been deepening cooperation in a wide range of areas, including security and the economy, and expressed hope for further cooperation between the two countries, which share such values as freedom, democracy and the rule of law.
Speaker Romualdez responded by offering his appreciation to Japan for providing support through its Official Development Assistance and Official Security Assistance programs, and for accepting workers from the Philippines. He also expressed hope for enhancing the relationship between the two nations' parliaments as Japan and the Philippines are enjoying the closest bilateral ties they have ever had.
They also remarked on visits by dignitaries to each other's countries, Japan's aid to disaster-hit areas in the Philippines, and exchange between the two nations' municipalities.
