On Tuesday, 4 February, the Most Honourable Mrs. Juliet Holness, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Jamaica, in Japan at the invitation of the House of Representatives, visited the House with her delegation and met with Mr. NUKAGA Fukushiro, Speaker of the House; Mr. GEMBA Koichiro, Vice-Speaker; Mr. HAMADA Yasukazu, Chair of the Standing Committee on Rules and Administration; Mr. MURAI Hideki, Mr. AOYAGI Yoichiro, Mr. NAKATSUKA Hiroshi and Mr. MURAOKA Toshihide, Directors of the Committee; and Mr. YOSHIDA Nobuhiro, Mr. YAMAKAWA Hitoshi and Mr. SHIOKAWA Tetsuya, Members of the Committee.
Speaker Nukaga began by welcoming the delegation to Japan. He then expressed hope that their visit will help the two countries, which marked the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations last year, facilitate exchange between their parliamentarians and enhance their bilateral relationship.
Mrs. Holness responded by offering her appreciation for the invitation. She also stated that she was honored to make the first official visit to Japan as a Jamaican Speaker. She congratulated Mr. Nukaga on his reelection as Speaker and expressed her gratitude for Japan's generous support to Jamaica in the areas of energy, the environment, disaster prevention, agriculture, fisheries and security.
They also exchanged views on the importance of cooperation between the two countries, which are maritime nations that share values such as freedom and democracy, toward maintaining the international order.
