On Monday, 21 June, Mr. OSHIMA Tadamori, Speaker of the House of Representatives, had his first video teleconference with Prof. Dr. Vuong Dinh Hue, President of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
Speaker Oshima began by offering his congratulations on Prof. Hue’s assumption of the office of President of the National Assembly in March 2021. He expressed his sincere appreciation for the active parliamentary exchange being carried out along with further development of bilateral relations under the Extensive Strategic Partnership. Referring to Japan’s recent provision of vaccines to Viet Nam, he stated that the two countries have deepened solidarity through their cooperation in addressing the COVID-19 crisis.
Prof. Hue followed by conveying his gratitude for the vaccines provided by Japan which contributed notably to expanding vaccination in Viet Nam. He stated that Japan is highly reliable and one of the most important strategic partners for Viet Nam and that the development of bilateral relations has been truly significant. He also noted that he was grateful for the support Japan extended to Vietnamese nationals living in Japan during the pandemic.
After their initial greetings, Mr. Oshima and Prof. Hue exchanged views on bilateral relations in the fields of economy and investment among others. Ahead of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Viet Nam in 2023, they both confirmed the importance of greater promotion of parliamentary exchange to further enhance bilateral relations and strengthen friendly cooperation.
Mr. Oshima stated that all the people concerned are proceeding with preparations so that Japan could host the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in a safe and secure manner while taking all possible measures against infection. Prof. Hue expressed his support and his wishes for the success of the Games.
