On Wednesday, 29 September, Mr. OSHIMA Tadamori, Speaker of the House of Representatives, had a video teleconference with the Hon. Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States of America.
Mr. Oshima started by extending his appreciation for Speaker Pelosi's long term contribution to improving relations between the two countries, along with his greetings commenting on his retirement as a Member of the House of Representatives at the end of this term. Speaker Pelosi replied by expressing her regret over Mr. Oshima's retirement. She also stated that she was grateful for Mr. Oshima's leadership that promoted the values of democracy at occasions including the G7 Speakers' Meetings.
The two Speakers exchanged views on bilateral relations and regional situations. As they explained the recent political situation in their countries to each other, both Speakers once again shared recognition of the importance of relations between the two countries which share democratic value.
Speaker Oshima stated that he hopes for continued strong support from Speaker Pelosi to further promote parliamentary exchange, including dialogues between parliamentarians of the two countries.
