Resolution calling for the improvement of the humanitarian situation
and an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip

House of Representatives
National Diet of Japan

The House of Representatives resolves as follows:

There has long been a cycle of armed conflicts and ceasefires between Israel and Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups. It has been about eight months since the terror attacks against Israel by Hamas and others on 7 October 2023 and the start of the subsequent fighting in the Gaza Strip. The prolonged fighting has caused a great number of casualties, including children, women and the elderly, resulting in a critical humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

The House of Representatives of Japan calls for an immediate ceasefire so that the release of the hostages will be realized and an environment conducive to humanitarian assistance activities ensured in a sustained manner, and strongly hopes that this will lead to the realization of a sustainable ceasefire. The House also opposes full-scale military operations in Rafah in southern Gaza, where many displaced people are still taking refuge, and calls for humanitarian assistance activities not to be hindered.

The House of Representatives calls on the Government of Japan to, in line with the will of the House, closely coordinate with countries concerned to bring about the release of the hostages and a ceasefire, and to work as a member of the United Nations Security Council and the G7 to create an environment conducive to those goals. The government should also continue to make the utmost diplomatic efforts toward improving the humanitarian situation and de-escalating the situation in Gaza as soon as possible.
