Speaker Hosoda's translated video message on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Thai National Assembly

I am HOSODA Hiroyuki, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan. On behalf of the House, I would like to offer our sincere congratulations on the 90th anniversary of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Thailand. I would also like to express our profound respect for all the presiding officers and parliamentarians who have devoted themselves to the democratic development of Thailand's parliament.

Japan and Thailand, with a rich history of exchange spanning 600 years, are celebrating the 135th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year. With active exchange at multiple levels in various fields including politics, the economy and culture, our relationship has developed into a Strategic Partnership.

Our two parliaments enjoy an excellent relationship, demonstrated by Speaker Chuan Leekpai's visit to Japan in 1987 at the invitation of our House, as well as by discussions between committee members and cooperation at international conferences.

I visited Bangkok on government assignment more than 30 years ago, and I still vividly remember the streets in Thailand being packed with people full of energy. Having achieved strong growth, Thailand is now the largest hub for Japan in Southeast Asia, with about 6,000 Japanese companies operating there, and over 80,000 Japanese citizens living there.

In the increasingly complex international situation, our cooperation is becoming more important for maintaining peace, freedom, and prosperity, as well as for the continuing development of both countries. I hope to promote parliamentary dialogue to strengthen bilateral relations and regional cooperation.

In closing, I would like to send my best wishes for health and happiness to Speaker Chuan and his fellow parliamentarians, and for the continued development and prosperity of Thailand.
