I was deeply saddened to learn of the flooding and landslides caused by the heavy rains on the island of Sumatra, bringing about enormous suffering for so many of your people through the loss of lives, with many still missing.
On behalf of the House of Representatives of Japan, I would like to express our sincere sympathies and condolences for the victims, their families, and all those affected. I pray for the fast progress of your rescue operations, and the swift recovery and reconstruction of the devastated areas.
